THE CLASSIC AT WOODSIDE MEADOWS
Tooker's House - Ann Arbor, MI
July 30, 2006
A mix of strong rookies, seasoned veterans and world-ranked players
headlined the second event of the summer at Woodside Meadows. Although
there were no dog incidents this time around, an incoming storm almost
ruined the fun for Ann Arbor's Monkeyballers.
After a relatively quiet first 15 matches (except for the lengthy,
but well-played, Partyka/Shundry gab-fest), the dark skies moving in
from the west caught the attention of the participants. Meteorologist
Jason Tooker and his AccuWeather laptop predicted about 15 more minutes
of dry conditions ¡V play fast, he said. And Tooker did just
that disposing of promising rookie Robert Preseau in four quick rounds,
and then jumping on Casey Frushour big early before Frushour mounted
his second huge comeback of the day to take the losers bracket championship.
The championship match turned
into Speed Monkeyball as the winds picked
up, the temperature plunged and lighting flashed nearby. As
the rest of the competitors sprinted to pick up beer bottles, party
cups and a random plastic container that had blown across the lawn,
big bro Andy Frushour topped his
younger brother to take his second
title of the summer.
