A new team format for Monkeyball made its debut just outside the Big House in Ann Arbor on October 7, 2006. Two four-man squads tested the Ryder Cup type format, with a team of Michigan alumni downing a team of current Michigan students, 6-2.

Details of the team format...

• Eleven possible matches, first team to win six matches win.
• First six matches are doubles, with each team member playing three matches - one each with each of his three partners.
• The next four matches are singles, with each team member playing one match against a member of the opposing team.
• If tied after 10 matches, the tiebreaking match pits all four players from each team playing in the same match - Player A throws the first round, Player B the second, Player C the third and D the fourth.
• Prior to each of the three stages, the team captain determines a lineup and then matches his lineup against the other captain's lineup (just like the Ryder Cup).

Feedback from all of the competitors suggest that a Team Monkeyball tournament will likely make its way into the Summer 2007 tournament schedule.
