OBERON OPEN
Barton's House- Grand Rapids, MI
April 28, 2007
On a beautiful Spring Saturday, the Oberon was flowing and the Monkeyballs
were flying as a ten person field gathered to help Andy Dressler celebrate
the last day of his 20s. An abundance of Oberon will likely
put Dre on the shelf for his 30th, and the top ranked player in the
world - Casey Frushour - will also be recovering from his unexpected
poor performance.
The Oberon Open champion was host Chad Barton. Barton started
the day slow going 2-2 in pool play, but his luck turned after beating
wife Heather in the first round of the tournament (while each held
on to a daughter -- photo coming soon). Barton beat an unlikely
finalist for the championship, Mike Gruennert. Gruennert finished
last in his pool, but found his game and rolled into the championship
match. Barton won the championship 15-8, 15-4 to give the rookie
his first Monkeyball title.
Happy Birthday, Dre. Thanks to the Bartons for hosting. And
we'll see you all at the World Championships on August 4.
