CARP'S FATHERS DAY OPEN
Carp National - Mason, MI
June 17, 2007
The reigning World Champ was there. So was the 2005 World Champ. As
were three other top ten ranked players. And it was only appropriate
that five fathers were also there participating on their special day.
Let's just cut to the chase. Everyone was there to see if
Dean Allen would continue his Tiger Woods-like Monkeyball dominance.
Surely, it wasn't possible for him to lose. Right? He had won his last
two tournaments in convincing fashion ('06
Worlds, '07
Hooters), and
was determined to knock off a number of players transitioning
to the pinch-toss (and it should be mentioned, five of the top
six finishers at this tournament utilized the pinch - Mary Allen was
the only traditional toss holdout).
Dean rolled through the winners bracket and faced losers bracket champ
Andy Frushour in the final. Frushour had rallied to win three
of his previous four matches, and the championship match was no different.
Allen led in both games of the decisive match, including 12-3 in the
second, but Frushour and his new pinch caught fire to knock off
the 2006 World Champ. The win marked Frushour's third Monkeyball
title in the last two years ('06
Riverside, '06
Woodside Classic).
