BIRMINGHAM CHRISTMAS INVITATIONAL

A crowd assembled on the lawns of the Palazzo Mills in Mountain Brook, AL, on a sunny and crisp (40-degrees) day for another Monkeyball promotional tournament. Monkeyball is growing in the South, and this tournament saw 11 first-time tournament participants, eager to see what the buzz was about. The festivities and play did not disappoint, and several people inquired about getting their own Monkeyball paraphernalia (note to the Commish...I am requesting a cut of the orders placed).  

A word of thanks to our gracious hosts, Bill and Connie Mills; their hospitality allowed the tournament to run smoothly. Bill's hospitality was tested however, when after dispatching Dilbert (the Salmon Smokeout Champion and highest ranked baller in the tournament) in the first round, Dilbert proceeded to consume most of Bill's 21-year-old Scotch. To Dilbert's credit, he showed why he was ranked in the Top 50 and cruised through the Loser's Bracket, avenging his earlier loss to Bill Mills, before succumbing to the tournament dark-horse, Stacey Hodulich, in the Quarterfinals.

Gidge was Gidge, entertaining the crowd and dispatching her long-time admirer Johnny (now known as John), 11-8 in the 2 nd round. Dilbert's brother, John Morris, cruised easily in his first ever attempt, beating Sean Dameron 11-1. Unfortunately, in the 3 rd round he met Melanie Salmon, who was throwing darts all day, and lost 15-11.

Stacey created havoc as she cruised into the finals, laying waste to Dilbert, Marc (her husband) and claiming 2 of the 6 Salmons in the tournament (Chuck and Melanie). Jason Salmon ended Stacey's self-proclaimed quest to "eliminate all of the Salmons from the tournament" when he beat her in the Finals 2-11, 11-4.

Another successful Birmingham tournament completed, and there is talk of many more to come.   Thanks to all who came out, and until next time...keep on ballin'.
