2008 WEINERS & BREW OPEN
712 Arch - Ann Arbor, MI
April 24, 2008

The guys at 712 Arch in Ann Arbor kicked off summer by hosting the 2008 Weiners & Brew Open. The all-male field of 10 was well equipped for an evening of beer, hot dogs, and fierce Monkeyball competition. Top seeds Casey Frushour and Andy Kidle were feared coming in, but in the end could not keep up with eventual champion Dan Kidle and his 712 Arch housemates.

Newcomer Dan Hanak kicked off his Monkeyball career with a bang, steamrolling Mike Sanders (15-0), Casey Frushour (15-3), and Matt Young (15-7) on his way to the winner’s bracket final. Unfortunately for Hanak, there he met veteran Dan Kidle, who had little trouble on the day, aside from a close first round match with housemate Andrew Hicks. Kidle showed no mercy against Hanak, rolling to a quick 15-1 victory. Hanak and Kidle met again in the tournament final, where Kidle’s experience again led him to a 15-2 victory and the tournament crown. In response to allegations of cheating and repeated cries of “He’s not drunk enough!” Kidle was then forced to do a celebratory keg stand.

Including Kidle, the five Monkeyballers from the 712 Arch house dominated the competition, taking the top 4 spots in the tournament and not losing a single game to anyone outside of the house. Can this group of newcomers carry their winning ways into MB4? In 100 days, we will have our answer.
