Little Monkey Birthday Bash

It was a beautiful day in Birmingham, AL until around 3 pm when it got overcast and started to sprinkle. We gathered at Homewood Park Pavilion # 2 to celebrate Wes Dameron's 2nd birthday. The theme was Monkeys, so what better activity to have than a Monkeyball tournament for the adults?

We had 16 Monkeyballers and about half of the field consisted of rookies. The sport is growing in Alabama! Meredith Brock and Kelley Munger started off the day in a marathon match that had them both tossing Monkeyballs at Missy since she was making fun of their form. The tournament had several family battles, including sister vs. sister, cousin vs. cousin, father-in-law vs. son-in-law, and daughter vs. step-dad. Missy Dameron made a pretty good run until she met up with 2nd place finisher, Kevin Singleton. Newcomer Adam Vines lost his first match and then won 5 straight, barely missing out on a trip to the finals. Tom Dameron proved that not only can he play a mean tuba, but he can toss the Monkeyball. He won 2 matches in his first tournament.

Kevin Singleton and Sean Dameron, MB practice buddies, met up in the winner's bracket finals with Sean taking that match, 11-9. They met up again in the finals with Kevin winning 11-8 to force the final match of the day. Sean squeaked by 11-8 to capture the title. The rain couldn't stop us from enjoying our monkey cupcakes and bananas and from battling it out on the MB court
