It was a sunny, windy day in Birmingham...what better reason to play
a little Monkeyball?
The tourney started off with husband vs. wife,
Sean & Missy Dameron,
with Sean taking the opening game 15-0. So much for chivalry! Ashley
and Stephen Stepkoski (husband & wife) also battled it out in
their first match, with Stephen squeaking out a 15-12 victory. Eventual
champ, Kevin Singleton, lost his first match 16-14 to Sean Dameron,
but he would get his revenge later. Randy Nelms made a strong run
winning his first three matches. Newcomers Melodye and Steve Guidroz
went 0-2 and 1-2 respectively, but will prove to be tough opponents
in the near future. Melanie Singleton put together a good run knocking
out her buds Missy Dameron and Ashley Stepkoski in consecutive matches.
As mentioned earlier, Kevin lost his first match in a close one,
but he fought through and conquered the loser's bracket to make
it back to the finals. Kevin took out Sean 15-1 in the first game to
force a final, winner-take-all match for the title. Sean took a
quick lead, but Kevin fought back from elimination and won the match
16-14 for his first career title! Congratulations, Kevin!
