2009 SPRING KICK OFF AT PRESCOTT FIELD

The second championship event at Prescott Field will take even longer than the Memorial Day marathon a year ago. Favorites Dan Renner and Tony Fuller mowed through the field advancing to the final best of three. Fuller and Renner both won a game forcing a third and final game , but because of darkness falling and parents patiently waiting at the airport, action was suspended. Renner and Fuller will make up the game sometime this week. (UPDATE: Fuller beat Renner, 15-11.)

Highlights of the day:

• A quarter of the field is expectant. Julie Renner is due any day and Sarah Fuller is scheduled for August. Father Tony Fuller planned well, deciding on the late end of August so as not to interfere with MB5. One of last years participants Mike Connell was unable to make the event as his wife Ashley Connell gave birth to a healthy girl, Bree Ireland Connell, on Sunday afternoon.
• Newcomers Dan and Jessica Oberlin each won a match. DanO in the first round vs his wife and Jess in the losers bracket over Nicole Hanselman.
• Matt Haynick finished 3rd on the day finishing 3-2. Matt easily handled Jess and Julie but could not over come either Tony or Dan.
• Dan Renner blew a 13-0 lead to Tony Fuller in the winners bracket to send Renner to the losers round. "I have no excuse," said Renner, "I just couldn't find the tree." In game one of the championship match, with the score tied at 12, Renner quickly put up a two followed by a three only to have Fuller on his last toss knock off the two pointer while keeping the balls on the three and the score tied. Fuller later emerged with a 15-12 win. In game two when down 12-0 Fuller declared, "I've come back from worse." Fuller then put up his first points of the match on the tree. Not feeling the pressure Renner promptly ended the match with a 15-2 win. At this point it was then agreed on by both participants that a day later the two would meet to finish the match.
