LABOR DAY INVITATIONAL #3
Pennine Ridge Field -- Grand Ledge, Mich.
September 6, 2009
Two years ago Commissioner Frushour took home the inaugural Meadow Woods Labor Day title. Labor Day Weekend 2008 saw the conclusion of a two-week long event with Dave Sylvia winning the gold. In 2009, a first-time champ became the proud owner of the famous Byers-built Labor Day trophy.
Cory Fulton broke onto the Monkeyball scene at MB5, winning a number of morning matches and advancing to the afternoon before falling in the second round to World #6 Dan Kidle. Apparently Cory has been honing his MB skillz since that rain-soaked August day. At the third annual Meadow Woods Labor Day event, Fulton broke out his new game and swept his way to his first career title. Fulton topped Andy Frushour in a championship that featured an abundance of high-point racks. And from the perspective of this MB talent scout, I’d say watch out for Cory at MB6. (Side note: three-time World Champ Dean Allen is a great bowler, so is Fulton – I don’t think this is a coincidence.)
Enough about Cory…Jim Shelley had his finest MB showing to date, finishing third. For the fifth time in 11 career tournaments, Maggie Olds finished in the top four. Tony Olds and Todd Byers both continue to slide down the MB World Rankings. And Kevin Coltman (of YellowSub Marines fame) finished tied for fifth, but not before handing the Commish his worst-ever Monkeyball beating. According to the official MB database, in 156 career games Frushour has lost 35 times, including these four worst-ever beat-downs:
9/6/09 – Kevin Coltman d. Frushour, 15-2
4/22/07 – Dean Allen d. Frushour, 15-3
12/28/08 – Dan Kidle d. Frushour, 15-4
8/26/06 – Kevin Gunns d. Frushour, 15-4
Congrats on the win, Cory! Congrats on making the top of the list, Kevin! And thanks to Tony and Maggie for hosting yet another successful MB event.
