Morrow Wins on Home Turf to Claim His First Sanctioned
Title
HOWELL, Mich. - Oct. 21, 2007 - After 7 weeks off,
Monkeyballers were back in action at the Howell
Invitational hosted by Brent and
Jennifer Morrow. Strong winds factored into this event, but #2
Brent was able to overcome the conditions to claim top honors
over #7 Kevin Gunns.
Brent Morrow and Pete Nemes Team to Win First Ever MB Doubles
Event
BOYNE CITY, Mich. - Sept. 2, 2007 - Many doubles matches
have been played over the years, but no one has stepped up
to host an
official Monkeyball Doubles tournament...until now. A group
in northern Michigan hosted the first sanctioned tournament
-- the Glenwood
Beach Monkeyball Open -- and they set the bar high for future doubles
events.
40 ballers participated in the second annual event on the
banks of Lake Charlevoix. And even though the results don't factor
in to the official World
Rankings, Rankings, bragging rights were certainly on the line. Two-time
Worlds semifinalist and second ranked Brent Morrow teamed with Pete
Nemes to take the crown (and the sweet
trophy). BM tells me there
was loads of talent at Glenwood Beach -- let's hope a few of those
folks make it down to MB4 in 2008. Pennine Ridge Hosts Labor Day Event;
2nd Biggest
MB Tournament of the Year
GRAND LEDGE, Mich. - Sept. 1, 2007 - The Olds' and
the Byers' hosted their second event of the summer, 19-person Labor
Day MB tournament at Pennine Ridge. It is the largest ever non-World
Championship event to date. A host of MB vets tutored the rookies
throughout the afternoon, but it was the the first-timers who
stole the show. Chuck Giller, competing in his first sanctioned
event, reached the championship match without a loss. But in
the end, Andy Frushour lived up to his #4 World Ranking and took
the title.
Back-To-Back: Dean Allen Wins Second Straight World Championship
DIMONDALE, Mich. - Aug. 4, 2007 - The road to the championship
wasn't as easy as it was in 2006, but Dean Allen again took top
honors at the 2007
World Championship. He needed three games to beat Andrew Alexand er
in the Finals, and another three to beat Brent Morrow in the Semifinals.
Andi Osters topped Morrow in the consolation match.
A full report, including highlights, a
PDF listing all matches and
the new World Rankings,
have been posted. If you have something you'd like to add -- like
a memorable moment, pictures or video -- I'd love to include it on
this site.
Finally, a special thanks go out to
our hosts, Jim & Debbie Blair, and the unofficial planning commitee
of Joe & Becky Frushour, for all their behind-the-scenes work. And
mad props also go out to Casey Frushour for another fine t-shirt
and Tony Olds for hooking us up with the PA system. Finally, thanks
to Emily for putting up with my non-stop Monkeyball talk for the
last 6 months (is it too early to start talking about MB4?).
Groupings & Seeds Announced For Worlds;
Preview and Predictions Also Posted
LANSING, Mich. - July 21, 2007 - The seeds are set and the groupings
have been announced. But more importantly, the annual Preview
and Predictions article has been posted. This year, in addition
to the Commish's prognostication, several other M-ballers offered
predictions for the World Championships.
Only 14 days until

Veteran Dressler Pair Dominate Ashbrook
HOLT, Mich. - July 7, 2007 -
The husband-and-wife combo of Andy and Kari Dressler finished 1-2
in a tune-up for the 2007 World Championships at the Battle
At Ashbrook Lawn. Dressler earned his first Monekyball title with
the win, while Kari continues to impress in small satellite tournaments.
Don't let her #80 world ranking fool you, she will be a TOUGH beat
in the early rounds at MB3 -- she's already on this prognosticator's
sleeper list.
Spots Still Open For World Championships
LANSING, Mich. - June 28, 2007 - 73 Monkeyballers are officially signed
up for MB3, but there is room for plenty more. Please contact
me ASAP
if you're interested in joining us for some crazy M-ball action
on August 4. If you've already registered don't forget to send
me your $10 entry fee (the ten bucks includes beer), and if you
want a t-shirt (also $10) send me your order by July 4. More information
about the 2007
World Championships can
always be found on this site.
Five of World's Top Ten Compete at
Carp National on Father's Day
MASON, Mich. - June 17, 2007 - A loaded mid-season field gathered for
Father's Day festivities at the hallowed Carp National Monkeyball
Grounds. Reigning World Champ Dean Allen (#2 World
Ranking) and 2005 World Champ Jim Blair (#3) headlined a participant
list that also included #7 Joe Frushour, #8 Andi Osters and #10
Andy Frushour. As expected, the Monkeyballin' was world class.
Tournament details can be found on the Carp's
Fathers Day Open event page.
2 A.M. Monkeyball Part of Relay For Life Activities
LANSING, Mich. - June 9, 2007 - Relay
For Life, a 24-hour fundraiser for the
American Cancer Society, visited Waverly High School in Lansing,
Mich. over the weekend. In addition to the celebration of the
walk, a highlight of the off-track activities was the middle-of-the-night
Monekyball tournament. Although no World Rankings points were on
the line, the compeition was fierce. Thanks to Richard and Kadi
Pojeta for making Monkeyball part of such a special event, and
for introducing M-Ball to a new batch of potential World
Championship participants.
Rookies Compete For First Alabama Title
HOOVER, Alab. - June 9, 2007 - Monkeyball reached Tide/Tiger country
for the first time this weekend. Dilbert (apparently all of Alabama
just knows him as "Dilbert") took home the trophy at the Salmon
SmokeOut while Rochester, NY, resident Jason Salmon finished
second.
