Andy Dressler Sweeps Through Controversial "Grass
Rule" Invitational
HOLT, Mich. - May 26, 2008 - In what will forever be
known around the Ashbrook Lawn courts as the "Grass Rule",
Andy Dressler claimed his second career title at the Holt "Grass
Rule"
Invitational. An early round ruling -- a ruling not specifically
covered at the time in the Official
Tournament Rulebook -- created
angst and discord among a usually tight-knit group of family and
pastors. In the end, though, Dressler lived up to his #8 World
Ranking in cruising to the title. The infamous Grass Rule is now
covered in Rule 5.5.1.

Tony Fuller Wins First MB Championship
EAST LANSING, Mich.- May 26, 2008 - Tony Fuller became
the 18th different winner of a sanctioned Monkeyball tournament,
hoisting the Blatz
Memorial Day Afternoon Delight Cup. Using a best-of-three match
format for the majority of the tournament, rumor has it the lengthy
tournament was interrupted by a mid-championship match beer run.
Nice.

New York 5th State to Host Tournament; Frushour Wins
5th Career Title
WEBSTER, New York - May 24, 2008 - New York joins Michigan,
Indiana, Alabama and North Carolina as official host states for
a sanctioned MB event. The 9-person tournament , the Rochester
Invitational at M3 Park, featured Monkeyball
Commissioner Andy Frushour and Southern Monkeyball Conference M-baller
(and 2007
Birmingham Christmas Invitational champ) Jason Salmon.
Although Frushour
cruised to an early season victory, he noted the talent of the
Rochester-based Monkeyballers,
"I've known for a while that Salmon was legit. Matt
Perry also showed a lot of promise. And once Z-Wert drops that
cast, raises his glass a few more times, and puts in the time on the
range, he could be a contender."
Dan Kidle Claims Third Career Title at
Ann Arbor's Weiners &
Beer Open
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - April 24, 2008 - Dan Kidle won his third
career tournament title, defeating a slew of U-M grads and undergrads
as classes finished in Ann Arbor this week. The field was highlighted
by a number of Monkeyball veterans, including former World #1 Casey
Frushour, but the crew from 712 Arch stole the show
at the 2008
Weiners & Beer
Open.
100 Days Until MB4 - Sign Up Now
LANSING, Mich. - April 24, 2008 - The 2008 version of
the Monkeyball
World Championships is only 100 days away. The fourth annual event
will be the biggest and best so far. I anticipate we'll have
no problem beating the 81 participants from last year; in fact,
I think we may reach our maximum capacity of 128 ballers. Send
me an e-mail to SIGN
UP NOW and make sure your spot is reserved. Entry fee is $10
(includes beer), and the official tournament t-shirt must be
pre-ordered for $10.
The Smack Begins: Bama Bulletin Board
LANSING, Mich. - April 19, 2008 - A response from one
of our Alabama M-Ballers to an invitation to play at the 2008 World
Championships:
"If
we go north for the purpose of dominating these clowns don't we
have to get special passports and a brace of very potent and special
inoculations? All the northerners will need is the ability to lift,
on a wholesale basis, a variety of excuses out of the Big Ten Book of Excuses,
or quite frankly the Notre Dame Book of Excuses. There would be ample
source material as to how to spin the facts. "We
lost to a southern team despite our nationally recognized superiority
because.........(insert excuse here....). " The excuse will probably
have something to do with speed, quickness and sweater vests. If
this baiting continues I might have to go to the championship.
However if my fellow somoco competitors want to pay me to stay
home and NOT play I fully understand. I will take the humiliation
for the benefit of our team. Plus, I really don't want to go to Michigan
in August, it is to much like Michigan in December and Michigan
in March.........REALLY,REALLY BORING." Back in Bama -- Third Southern Monkeyball Conference Champ
Crowned
MOUNTAIN BROOK, Ala. - April 12, 2008 - Alabama is
staking its claim as the new hotbed of champion Monkeyballers.
First it was Dilbert, then Jaso n
Salmon, and now John Griffith takes home a trophy from
Il Palazzo Mills at the SoMoCo
Open. The folks in Bama have even
named their group the Southern Monkeyball Conference (mullet
logo at right), and they've thrown down the gauntlet to their
Michigan brethren. We'll see if they make the trip north to challenge
at the August 2nd World Championships - and maybe we can even
settle a Big 10/SEC debate or two while we're at it.
Mark Your Calendar -- 2008 World Championships Scheduled
for August 2
LANSING, Mich. - Jan. 20, 2008 - It's official: The 2008
World Championships will be held on Saturday, August 2, and Jim
Blair will once again host the tournament at the Old Orchard
in Dimondale, MI. We hope to break the 100-participant barrier
this year. More info coming this spring.
T-Nuts Wins Last M-Ball Event of 2007
GRAND LEDGE, MIc h.
- Dec. 31, 2007 - Hosting his third Monkeyball tournament of
the year at Pennine Ridge, Tony Olds finally took home his first
official MB title at the New
Years Eve Invitational. Billed
as the first-ever sanctioned event played in the snow, Tony defeated
a group of 14 ballers including five of C-Town's finest.
(At right, Todd Byers and Paul Ford battle "under the lights"
as a snowstorm rolls in.) Monkeyball Back In Alabama; Jason Salmon Takes First Title
MOUNTAIN BROOK, Ala. - Dec. 23, 2007 - Monkeyball
visited Alabama for a second event in 2007, this time at the Palazzo
Mills in the suburbs of Birmingham. Longtime Monkeyball enthusiast
Jason Salmon took home the hardware at the Birmingham
Christmas Invitational -- with 28 competitors, it's the largest
non-World Championship event to date. The SEC folk claim to have the
best college football in the country, but are they tops in Monkeyball,
too? Let's hope a few of those folks visit Big 10 country for the
2008 World Championships (Salmon & Dilbert: I'm calling you out).
